Africa; Yellow lepturus cichlids are endemic to Lake Malawi.

When mature, the males will be larger than the females with a more intense colouration, especially at spawning time.

Not a great deal is known about the breeding habits of Buccochromis rhoadesii, it is believed to follow the same mouth brooding pattern as other Malawi cichlids.

The expected life span for Yellow lepturus cichlid is 10-12 years.
