The Congo Tetra is omnivorous and will accept a variety of foods such as insects, worms, crustaceans and veggies.

Males are more brightly colored than females. They also have longer caudal and dorsal fins.

These egg scatterers are bred successfully when the parents are taken from the aquarium once the eggs are fertilized and layed. The fry take a long time to grow when compared to the growth rate of other fish such as cichlids.

The Congo Tetra will live approximately 5 years long.

The Congo Tetra is endemic to western Africa in the Congo River, just as the name suggests.

The Congo Tetra is a very beautiful fish that exhibits wonderful coloration that becomes more apparent in the correct lighting and with proper diet. Thanks to Jeff Catalina for allowing us to use the picture.
