Food

Blood Fin Tetras are carnivorous and prefer to eat live, meaty meals such as worms, crustaceans and insects. This species will readily accept dried and frozen foods as well as flakes and pellets.

Sexing

Mature males possess a hook extending from their anal fins while females do not. The males are brighter also more colorful while the females have a more robust physique.

Breeding

The Blood Fin Tetra will readily breed in almost any aquarium setting if there are both a male and a female present. The parents should be removed from the aquarium as soon as they are finished spawning to prevent them from eating their eggs.

Bloodfin tetra is known to live for over 10 years.

Origin

Bloodfin tetras are native to South America. They can be found in the Parana River Basin in Argentina and Paraguay.
