Food and feeding

Raphael catfish will accept all foods, being a nocturnal tank inhabitant, it is best to feed these fish at dusk. Treats of blood worms should be offered once per week.

South America; where Raphael catfish inhabit the Amazon basins.

Sexing

There are no visible differences between the sexes.

Breeding

As of this date there are no reported spawnings in the aquarium but it is believed that they build a bubble nest in their own habitat.

Expected life span of Raphael catfish is 9 years.

Short description

Plenty of hiding places are required for these catfish along with subdued lighting. Raphael catfish are a fairly easy fish to keep if the water quality is good, they prefer to be kept in small groups. It has been known for them to attack small fish in the night so pick the tank mates carefully. It is sometimes called the talking catfish, when removed from the aquarium, it will give out a croak.
